China has said that the internet is the cause of youth crime.
Police spokesman Wu Heping said that those youth who are getting arrested have looked at pornographic and violent websites.
According to Reuters.com, Heping said "in recent years from the cases we have discovered, the proportion of young people guilty of cheating, rape or robbery who are given to using the Internet or have been corrupted by online filth, is very high".
Eighty percent of the arrested youth have watched some form of porn on the internet. But is that why they are committing crimes? The internet makes porn accessible. So it makes sense that there would be a greater amount of teens watching.
The news conference that was held was due to China’s campaign to crackdown on internet porn. It will focus on cyber strip shows and sexually explicit images, audio and video clips according to the Xinhua News Agency (From MSNBC).
Living in the U.S pornography is all over the place. In the obsessed world of celebrity, there are always new sex tapes being plastered on the internet. There are many websites that are making it very easy to see any and every celebrity that has made a video or posed nude.
China’s stand against teens and pornography is a good thing. But saying it is the cause of criminal action is a stretch. China is a communist country so there won’t be anyone speaking up and debating the issue. There have not been any real studies done on China’s part as of yet.
